A perspective too often missing from family court work.

Dr. Stephanie Reynolds, Psy.D., is a licensed psychologist and the founder and clinical director of The Reynolds Institute, with more than 20 years of experience working with high-conflict families. She brings a perspective too often missing from family court work: specialized expertise in neurodivergence, and how autism, ADHD, and other neurodivergent presentations shape conflict, communication, and parent-child relationships.

What Is Therapeutic Intervention?

Therapeutic Intervention (TI) is a court-recognized service for families navigating high conflict, behavioral concerns, or breakdowns in co-parenting communication. As a court-appointed Therapeutic Interventionist, Dr. Reynolds works directly with the family toward specific, court-defined goals — improving communication, de-escalating conflict, and supporting healthier family functioning — with regular progress reporting back to the court and attorneys involved.

  • Court-ordered TI / COBI services
  • Comprehensive assessment & case formulation
  • Behavior management & skill-building
  • Parent coaching & communication support
  • Regular reporting to the court as required

What Is Reunification Therapy?

Reunification therapy is a structured, phased therapeutic process designed to repair and rebuild a parent-child relationship after a period of estrangement, conflict, or disrupted contact. This work moves at a pace appropriate to the child, guided at every step by the family's court order and the child's best interest.

Questions

TI & Reunification FAQs

What's the difference between therapeutic intervention and reunification therapy?

Therapeutic Intervention addresses high-conflict co-parenting and behavioral concerns within an intact family relationship. Reunification therapy is specifically focused on rebuilding a parent-child relationship after estrangement or disrupted contact. The two are sometimes used together, depending on the family's situation and court order.

How does a family begin these services?

These services are typically court-ordered or requested through an attorney. Contact our office to discuss your specific court order and goals, and we will confirm fit and next steps.

How long does reunification therapy take?

Timelines vary widely depending on the family, the history involved, and the court's goals. Pacing is deliberately careful, especially when rebuilding trust with a child — we do not use a fixed timeline.

Does Dr. Reynolds work with neurodivergent families specifically?

Yes. Neurodivergence-informed care is central to Dr. Reynolds's practice, including families where a parent, a child, or both are autistic, have ADHD, or are otherwise neurodivergent.
